New Space Designed to Allow Growth, Appeal to Talent
Knoxville, Tenn. – Work is now underway on a new headquarters for Axle Logistics, a $13 million project that will help extend downtown northward.
“We are redoing this 1920 building not just to accommodate growth, but to have the kind of outstanding facility that will appeal to young, talented people with ambition and drive,” said Axle cofounder Drew Johnson. “Where they work, and what kind of place in which they work makes a real difference.”
Cofounder Jon Clay said the firm will add almost 50 new employees by the time the work is done. “And we expect to add another 200 over the next five years,” said Clay. “We’ll have a real impact on the community and plan on being a great neighbor.”
The project earned a 15-year Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) incentive from both the City of Knoxville and Knox County. It was also approved by the Industrial Development Board.
“It’s terrific when we can see an old building brought back to life and see new jobs created,” said Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon. “That’s truly a win/win and it’s good for the city.”

The new headquarters project is being managed by Conversion Properties, was designed by Design Innovation Architects and is being built by Denark Construction.
